Militar Mindset

Anthony Joshua is one of the biggest stars in boxing today. He is currently one of the best Heavyweight boxers in the world holding (at this time) the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles.

He became an Olympic champion at the London 2012 Olympics and then went on to become a heavyweight world champion in 2016, when he defeated Charles Martin for the IBF title.

Boxers that win both the Olympic and world titles are extremely rare, only the likes of Muhammad Ali have accomplished this incredible achievement!

Especially starting boxing at what many people would consider a late age, Joshua has achieved an awful lot in his illustrious career so far.

Anthony Joshua has had his ups and downs throughout his life. He turned to boxing which enabled him to turn his life around, becoming one of the biggest sporting stars in the world today. He has the MILITAR MINDSET!

How has Joshua displayed the MILITAR MINDSET?

Joshua is well-known for the way he carries himself inside and outside the ring. His MINDSET is a major key to his success so far.

Joshua was born in Watford, England. He was raised by both his parents Yeta and Robert Joshua along with his 3 other siblings. Joshua moved back to Nigeria at the age of 11 where he was enrolled in a boarding school.

The school was strict and he had to wake up at 5:30 each day! His time in Nigeria was short lived, as his parents divorced when Joshua was 12 meaning that he moved back to Watford, England.

In school Joshua was sporty, as he participated in both athletics and football. He broke the high school’s year 9 100 metre record with an impressive 11.6 seconds!

As Joshua grew older, he started to find himself in trouble. When Joshua found boxing it set him back on the right path and helped him to continue to develop his mindset.

Joshua is always in great shape physically! But he is arguably in even better shape mentally! He believes that in order for us to succeed we must mentally strengthen ourselves.

When striving towards our goals we must be disciplined to achieve them. In 2017, Joshua had to face one of the best heavyweight boxers to enter the ring, Dr Steelhammer, Wladimir Klitschko.

This was by far Joshua’s toughest fight to date at the time. Starting off strong, Joshua was able to knockdown Klitschko early on. It looked like it was going to be a classic Joshua win and he was going to become the unified champion of the world.

But it wasn’t to be as easy as that. Klitschko was able to get back to his feet and regroup. The tide of the fight started to turn midway through the bout. Joshua looked like he had blown his gas tank and was struggling in the ring with the more experienced Klitschko.

Klitschko dropped Joshua with a fantastic punch and it looked like Joshua was looking at his first defeat. Joshua was able to get back up. Even though his body was clearly fatigued, he had the mental strength to battle through the hard rounds.

He got a second wind later on in the fight and stopped Klitschko, becoming the unified heavyweight champion of the world! Joshua here showed us his mental power.

He believed in himself and his abilities and pushed on even though his body wanted to quit, his mind wouldn’t. This can be used in all life scenarios, as mental strength is definitely key for us to succeed.

Joshua has previously said ‘the mental is more important than the physical. You know, that voice in your head telling you to give up if it gets tough. That’s my main opponent – making sure that if your body wants to stop, your mind won’t let you.’.

Joshua is here emphasising the importance of being mentally strong as it will allow you to push through adversity.

When chasing your dreams be strong. Especially mentally. With this mental strength you will be able to overcome your problems and reach towards your goals!

Joshua continues to INSPIRE people!

Joshua is INSPIRING many people both in the boxing audience and outside of it. He shows other younger boxers the rewards they can receive from dedicating themselves to the sport.

Outside of boxing he is showing people how to turn their lives around when they set themselves a goal. Doing everything in their power to make that goal a reality.

Joshua is now a global superstar. But after Joshua finished school, he found himself amongst the wrong people. It looked like his life could have taken a bad turn.

After finishing high school at Kings Langley, Joshua started to find himself in trouble with the police. He ended up being sent to Reading Prison for two weeks and was on remand.

After being released from jail on bail, Joshua prepared himself for potentially retuning to prison. He attempted to bulk up by going to gyms to get himself bigger.

It was here he was introduced to boxing by his cousin Ben Ileyemi, who brought Joshua to Finchley ABC when he was 18. Joshua instantly fell in love with the sport and found his true passion.

He then focussed on his boxing career and started to develop himself as a good amateur. Unfortunately, Joshua did get into trouble again.  He was caught with drugs in 2011, one year before the Olympics. He was given community service.

Joshua said this enabled him to ‘smarten up’ as he was banned from the Olympic team. But he was able to get back on track with boxing and has only been on an upward trend since!

Joshua shows us, no matter what happens in your life, you can still achieve your aspirations. We all go through ups and downs, but it is how you bounce back from your problems that matters.

Joshua has inspired people by showing them there is always hope and light at the end of the tunnel.

In the blog header post Joshua has stated ‘Just set yourself a goal and try and stick to it. Because you’ll always end up better than where you started.’.

Here Joshua is showing us that when you strive towards a goal, the position you will find yourself in from striving towards that goal will be much better than the previous state you were in.

You must always aspire to reach your dreams. Don’t let the minor setbacks hold you down, as ultimately this will lead you to your success!

Joshua knows he is LIMITLESS!

Joshua has already shown us that he is LIMITLESS! Coming from the lows he has gone through to achieve the heights he has so far!

Joshua was an incredible amateur boxer. Winning the ABA championships back-to-back (2010 and 2011) and then securing a silver medal at the world championships in 2012.

His amateur career reached an all-time high after winning at the Olympics in 2012. A dream most amateur boxers aspire to. The Olympics is highly regarded as the greatest achievement an amateur boxer can accomplish.

But turning professional is a whole new ball game! As well as there being slightly different rules, there is much more pressure on fighters with every fight being important.

Anything can happen in the ring, with there always being that fear of being knocked out, but Joshua believed in himself. Joshua was able to be limitless in what he believed he could achieve.

He aspired to be great.

Working his way up the ranks and reaching the pinnacle of the heavyweight division, holding numerous world titles!

Even though he had a slight setback with a shock defeat to Andy Ruiz in in 2019, Joshua came back even stronger claiming back all his world titles in the rematch a few months later.

Joshua is now aiming to be even greater and looking to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world! Joshua really doesn’t have limits!

Joshua tells us how to be limitless ‘you have to speak from a place where all is possible. When you speak from a place where there’s limits, you’ve already set yourself up to fail.’.

He teaches us that you need to have self-belief and believe you can do anything you desire. Limiting ourselves will set us up to fail.

You must push further. Even though it may look ambitious. If you have that belief in yourself and work towards it. You will just go on and do it!

How does Joshua find INNER-PEACE?

Joshua has been able to find his own INNER-PEACE. He has learnt a lot from different scenarios he has been through in his life so far, which has enabled him to become a better person.

Joshua is also a man of faith but doesn’t have a preferred religion. Instead, he respects all religions.

He also likes to stay true to his roots frequently visiting the schools he attended and his amateur gym where it all started ‘Finchley ABC’, inspiring and helping the next generation.

He also likes to help out with different charities too.

Joshua has said ‘I became so disciplined when I was on tag. I would be at home by eight o’clock, and because I had boxing, I lived the disciplined life. I started reading because I learnt that so many champions educated themselves. Joe Louis, Mike Tyson, Bernard Hopkins. Before, it was ‘act now, think later’ – but the discipline and reading changed me.’.

This shows Joshua finds his inner peace through staying disciplined in life. He constantly likes to educate himself and further his knowledge.

Reading is proven to be good for you. It doesn’t only improve our knowledge and memory but can reduce stress and improve mental health.

Joshua also found something that he was passionate about in boxing. It allowed him to dedicate himself to the goals he set himself and stay disciplined to achieve them.

To find your inner peace you must be in a good mental state. You must find out what you want in your life. Chasing your dreams and staying positive can help to do this!

Joshua understands to give things TIME!

Joshua has been taught the value of TIME throughout his life. He has had to be patient to get to where he is now. Joshua really learnt the essence of time when he was arrested once again and banned from boxing in 2011.

He was forced to do one hundred hours of community service. It was a light punishment to something which could’ve been catastrophic and ultimately ended his boxing career.

This was a big turning point in Joshua’s life. Having been kicked of the Olympic team he had to be patient. He focused on improving himself and it made him realise how much he wanted to change his life for the better.

Joshua has openly admitted it was a very tough time for him. After completing the community service and having time to reflect on his actions. Joshua knew what he wanted to do with his life.

He was granted back onto the Great Britain boxing team. He was able to focus from thereon and hasn’t took a backwards step since!

Joshua once said ‘Wherever you get to is better than where you started. To stay on the road is a massive achievement.’

Teaching us that we will always benefit from pursuing our goals. When we first start, we will be in a better place than we were if we never did.

Over time, we will progress and get closer and closer to that ultimate dream we had. We must patient and keep working, knowing that one day we will reach it.

Many people struggle when chasing their goals due to the patience and consistency of work needed to attain them, don’t quit! Keep going!

Joshua shows us that you must always give things time, even if it looks like it really could be the end of your dreams.

You must use this time to reflect and see what other areas you can work on. You can always improve so be patient and keep going!

Joshua knows that he must stay ACTIVE!

As stated before, Joshua lives a disciplined life and stays ACTIVE. His training regime is tough starting his day at around 6:30/7am and finishing as late as 8pm!

He usually has three sessions within the day at 11.30am, 1:30pm and 5:30pm. Staying active allows Joshua to always be in the best physical and mental condition that he can be in.

He always likes to be ready to fight and constantly improving his skills and condition. This allows him to get that advantage over the rest of the heavyweight division as he is constantly training.

Most fighters will have fight camps where they train hard for an upcoming fight. Many don’t like to train in between these fight camps and can become complacent.

Joshua likes to train always, even when he doesn’t have a fight. By always training, he is constantly improving himself and building himself up in every department.

Joshua tells us ‘don’t worry about the title. Worry about what you’ve got to do today, tomorrow, the next day, and that title will be waiting for you.’ Joshua likes to focus on his smaller objectives which will build up and help him to achieve his conclusive goal.

This can be used in life in general as the ‘title’ represents your ultimate goal.

You must give yourself smaller goals to achieve each day. This will build up as you are constantly working and will build up to your ultimate dream!

Joshua remains RELENTLESS!

Though Joshua has reached the top of the heavyweight division, he is still RELENTLESS!

Joshua may not have started off on the best path, but he was able to find his own way and journey to achieve greatness. Ever since he walked into the boxing gym, he dedicated his life to the craft.

Everyday Joshua is looking at ways he can improve himself as both a boxer and a human. By being relentless in what he does he will be able to get the best out of his abilities.

Even though he is one of the best boxers in the world, he wants to be the greatest and rank himself supremely at the top. He wants to cement his name in the history books as one of the best boxers to ever grace the sport.

This means he must continue to dominate in the ring  as he now aims to become the undisputed champion of the world!

Joshua has stated ‘boxing is the embodiment of who I am, but beyond that, this is a journey of the self, and my obsession to get the most from this short life.’ This shows Joshua’s deeper thoughts.

He is obsessed with getting the most out of his life. He doesn’t want to have any regrets. Living life to the absolute fullest, making sure that he reaches his full potential.

You must be relentless always. In order to reach your dreams, you must continue to work hard. Even when times are tough you still must put the work in. Visualise and obsess over fulfilling your dreams, then one day it will become a reality!

Joshua is a superstar in sports today. The way he has been able to turn his life around is a true inspiration to all. By dedicating his life to boxing, he was able to reach his full potential and achieve his dreams!

We can all learn from how Joshua was able to turn his life around and achieve greatness.
