Conor McGregor- MILITAR MINDSET

Conor McGregor is one of the most iconic mixed martial artists ever. Having broken many records, most people credit McGregor as the person that brought MMA to the mainstream media.

His persona and trash talk have brought millions of people from around the world to watch his live fights. He was the first ever UFC champion to hold belts in two weight divisions simultaneously and currently holds the pay per view record for the UFC!

Outside of the octagon, McGregor is also an entrepreneur with many different business ventures. Having also crossed over to a boxing fight with one the greatest boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather!

McGregor didn’t always have it easy though…In this post we will show you how Conor McGregor has shown the MILITAR MINDSET!

Check out this motivational video we did on Conor McGregor!

How has McGregor displayed the MILITAR MINDSET?

McGregor set himself a goal. His MINDSET enabled him to achieve this. Nowadays McGregor is an elite athlete and world-renowned mega superstar. It wasn’t always like this for McGregor.

In 2008, after quitting his job as a plumbing apprentice, McGregor decided to chase his dreams of becoming a mixed martial artist. One of McGregor’s key traits of success is his self-belief.

When Conor decided to quit his job, his parents were against it. They knew the chances of his success as a mixed martial artist were slim. This didn’t stop McGregor.

Ultimately, he knew what he was capable of and with the right mindset he knew he could achieve this.

McGregor has previously said ‘I believe in myself so much that nothing is going to stop me’, this emphasises the amount of belief McGregor has in himself and his abilities.

He had a clear target in mind. To become the UFC champion of the world. Not just in one weight division. But two! An achievement barely a handful of people can claim at this moment in time!

You must believe in your abilities. Set yourself a goal and do whatever it takes to achieve it. Overcome whatever adversities you must to accomplish it. Then reap the rewards once you make it!

McGregor is INSPIRING people all over the globe!

McGregor is an INSPIRATION to many people in the mixed martial arts audience. But also, people in general. He has shown through hard work and persistence, anything can be achieved.

Not much was thought of McGregor in his first six fights where he went 4-2 (4 wins and 2 losses). People just assumed he was your average fighter. The run McGregor then went on was legendary, going unbeaten all the way till he claimed the UFC Featherweight throne!

Defeating the Brazilian warrior Jose Aldo (unbeaten in 10 years) in just thirteen seconds! This was one of the biggest fights the UFC had put on at the time with there being a world tour to promote the event.

McGregor broke records and pay per views (PPV) barriers with the big fights he has put on over the years. Consistently being able to pull in 1 million PPV buys or more over his last few fights which is unbelievable!

Just recently, McGregor was announced the highest paid athlete in 2021 by Forbes! Becoming the first ever mixed martial artist to top the list.

Currently he holds the PPV record with the incredible fight he had with Khabib Nurmagomedov! McGregor has inspired people to take mixed martial arts up as a career showing that when you reach the pinnacle, it can be very lucrative.

McGregor broke records and has achieved huge sums of money for the fights he has had. Inspiring people who enjoy mixed martial arts and showing them that it is viable as a career.

This was not always the case as it was first seen as brutal and the pay was not seen as good. However as mixed martial arts have evolved, people have become better overall fighters such as McGregor.

Showing the masses that if done right, it can be made into a career without having to take significant damage to health.

McGregor told us that ‘There’s no talent here, this is hard work. This is an obsession’ , reiterating that when you focus all your energy and mind onto your goals, you will reach them!

You must keep working hard even when things don’t look like they will work out. Or the chances are slim. You must keep going!

McGregor has shown us that he is LIMITLESS!

When we talk about people that really are LIMITLESS in what they believe they can achieve McGregor is the epitome! In 2017, McGregor stepped into the ring with one of the greatest boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather.

A defensive wizard who has gone unbeaten his whole professional career at 50-0. Swapping the octagon for the ring, this wasn’t what McGregor was used to.

Despite having an amateur boxing pedigree and winning an amateur Irish title, the pro game is a whole different level. Mayweather had trained specifically to boxing rules his whole life winning numerous world titles in multiple weight divisions.

Whereas McGregor had focused his fight game on not just his punches, but his kicks, grappling and everything to do with mixed martial arts.

Facing a boxer that had mastered his craft, really is a big ask. But McGregor was up for it! Even though losing in the 10th round by TKO, it was a valiant effort from McGregor.

Doing much better than people had expected from him. Just by stepping in the ring with Mayweather, McGregor showed he was limitless.

McGregor has stated ‘I’m going to the stars and then past them’, reinforcing his mindset and belief of there being no limitations.

You must always try things otherwise you will never know if you can or can’t. You may surprise yourself with what you’re capable of!

How does McGregor find INNER-PEACE?

McGregor has stated before that he wanted to have INNER-PEACE, as it will lead to a positive and happier life. For McGregor to achieve inner-peace regular training and a good diet was vital.

McGregor has told us that ‘Life is about improving and getting better’, constantly McGregor thinks of ways he can improve himself. He believes we can all make constant adjustments to ourselves in order to be better humans.

McGregor also likes to stay true to his roots. Even though he spends a lot of time in America in the likes of Las Vegas, he always comes home to Ireland.

He likes to spend time with his family and friends. McGregor also likes to give back to the community. Especially the places that helped him get to where he is today.

McGregor has recently visited his old clubs such as Crumlin boxing club and helps out by donating money to them. You must stay true to your roots and yourself to attain inner peace.

Make sure you are happy mentally and physically. It will help you strive towards your goals too!

McGregor understands TIME!

McGregor has been able to understand the value of TIME and embed it as a value. As stated before, McGregor was a plumbing apprentice before he pursued his dreams of becoming a mixed martial artist.

He was struggling during this time as he was claiming welfare benefits and living at his parents’ house. McGregor knew he must give things time and be patient to see his dreams become a reality.

Under the guidance of John Kavanagh, McGregor was able to work his way up the ranks in Cage Warriors (a mixed martial arts promotion based in Europe) and win both the Featherweight and Lightweight championships back-to-back.

He got the call up to the UFC and the rest is well documented! Doing the same in the UFC but on a much bigger platform! McGregor was able to set his sights on the bigger goal, which was becoming the UFC champion, even before he started his MMA career!

His vision, self-belief, and patience allowed him to fulfil it.

McGregor has taught us to ‘approach everything with an open mind, with a learning mind. You will never stop learning as long as you keep the mind-set that everything works, because everything does work. There’s a time and a place for every single move. If you work on it enough, it will work’, from this statement we can clearly see McGregor’s mindset.

He tells us to constantly be open for improvements. The more we learn and educate ourselves, the better chance we will have to succeed.

You must always have your final goal in your mind. Regardless of how far it may be at the current time. Be patient and keep working. You’ll get there!

McGregor knows the importance of staying ACTIVE

McGregor knows that staying ACTIVE is vital to achieving goals. Before entering the UFC, McGregor was a two weight world champion the European MMA organisation Cage Warriors.

Upon arriving in the UFC, McGregor got straight to work. Fighting at least twice a year up until 2016. He knew he must stay dedicated to his training in the gym to make sure he could perform to the best of his abilities inside of the octagon.

Outside of fighting, McGregor still stays active. He has many different business ventures which he focuses on.

Whatever McGregor sets his mind to, he wants to make sure he does it properly. Putting the time and effort into everything he does so he can reach his ultimate end goals.

McGregor tells us that ‘doubt is only removed by action. If you’re not working then that’s where doubt comes in’, McGregor is emphasising the importance of staying active.

We become doubtful when we don’t constantly work and stay busy in our crafts. You must stay active and always make progress to reach the pinnacle of your aspirations.

McGregor is just RELENTLESS!

McGregor always wants to be at the top of his game. He is RELENTLESS! In his fighting career McGregor has always pushed himself to break the barriers and records.

After defeating Jose Aldo in spectacular fashion, McGregor made it clear his mind was set on going up in weight and becoming the champion at lightweight too!

No one had even been a two-weight division champion in the UFC simultaneously at the time. Many people doubted McGregor thinking this was too big a step and that he would be too small for the weight division.

McGregor refused to listen to the critics. He was relentless. He knew what he was capable of and the dedication that he had put into his craft ever since he committed to martial arts full time.

In 2016, McGregor proved the critics wrong and made history! Defeating Eddie Alvarez and becoming the UFC’s first ever two weight world champion!

McGregor declares ‘I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing. Keep proving people wrong and proving myself right’. McGregor loves to prove people wrong!

He loves being set a challenge that is seen as unachievable and then goes on to do it. Don’t listen to people that may doubt you. If you are relentless on your way to achieving your dreams. You will attain it!

McGregor is a global phenomenon that has transcended the sport of mixed martial arts. We can all learn from McGregor’s mindset. He was just a normal person like us all who was obsessed with achieving his dreams!
