Stipe Miocic- MILITAR MINDSET

Stipe Miocic is the current heavyweight champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is highly regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.

He has set numerous records in the UFC heavyweight division including winning the most heavyweight title fights and having the longest reigning title defending streak (he defended it 3 times in a row!). He has had his setbacks in the UFC losing 3 times in total. But every time he lost, he bounced back even stronger, proving the doubters wrong.

Showing them why he is one of the greatest mixed martial artists in the world. Outside of fighting, Miocic is a firefighter! He likes to help people and it is something he is passionate about. Miocic is cementing himself as arguably the greatest UFC heavyweight of all time. He has most certainly shown us that he has the MILITAR MINDSET!

How has Miocic displayed the MILITAR MINDSET?

Miocic has shown us his MINDSET is strong throughout his life! He has had setbacks in his UFC career, but he has arisen from them to reach the height he is now at. Like most people we have covered in the ‘MILITAR MINDSET’ series, Miocic also has extreme self- belief, which he gets from putting in the work.

He knows to reach his ultimate goals he needs to believe in himself. To get this belief in his abilities he must prove to himself he can do it by constantly training and improving his skills till his dreams become a reality. Which is what he was able to do! Like us all, Miocic had setbacks and failures which he had to overcome.

He didn’t go unbeaten and lost a few big fights. This didn’t deter him from his ultimate goal of being the best in the world, it just made him hungrier to work harder and better. Miocic would reach his ultimate dream in 2016 when he beat Fabricio Werdum by knockout in the first round. Becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world!

From here Miocic would go on to break records, defending the belt an astonishing 3 times in a row. Something that has never been done before! Miocic told us: ‘I’m the best in the division. I know I am’ Showing us the true belief he has in his abilities. He doesn’t say he thinks he’s the best but he ‘knows’ it. This certainty and desire to be the greatest has enabled Miocic to get to where he is now.

He stayed positive throughout all the dilemmas he faced and always had his end goal in mind. Doing whatever it takes to reach his ultimate dream. You must stay positive and make sure that your mindset is strong when chasing your dreams, as you will most certainly face problems as you get there. Then you must power through them to go all the way!

Miocic is INSPIRING people across the world

Miocic has INSPIRED people with the journey he has made to the top. Not only is he regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, but he is also the first UFC champion with Croatian heritage.

Both his parents are from Croatia, so when he won the world title he also gave them their first ever UFC champion! Many great fighters have come out of Croatia such as the likes of Mirko Cro Cop, but no one has ever been able to become the UFC champion.

Miocic was the first from his country, showing Croatians that their dreams of becoming UFC champions are achievable through hard work and dedication. As displayed in the header image, Miocic has said ‘no one ever gave me a chance. No one ever thought I’d be the champ, and look where I’m at now’. Miocic shows us that no one believed in him, but he believed in himself.

This provided him that extra drive to achieve his dreams and prove all the doubters wrong. This was evident when Miocic fought Ngannou for the first time in 2018. No one gave Miocic a chance in the fight as Ngannou had destroyed anyone that stepped foot into the octagon with him beforehand. Winning all his previous fights in the UFC by knockout.

He was one of the most feared in the division and rightly so! Coming off an incredible knockout victory over Alistair Overeem, Ngannou landed himself the title shot. Miocic was a massive underdog leading into the fight, though he was the reigning and defending champion.

When it came to fight night, Miocic put on a masterclass performance. Using all of his skills to win in dominant fashion, securing a unanimous decision victory over Ngannou. It was the first time in the UFC that Ngannou had lost, never mind not being able to knock someone out!

Miocic proved everyone wrong again and showed the doubters why he is the greatest heavyweight in the division. Miocic teaches us that we should always believe in ourselves, no matter if no one else does. As long as you believe in yourself and you put the work in. You can achieve your dreams!

Miocic doesn’t care what people say he is LIMITLESS!

Miocic had to be LIMITLESS just to get to where he is now! He believes anything is achievable. As long as you put the effort into it and it is something you really want to do, you can do it.

Miocic has already shown that he is the greatest heavyweight in the division, though many people have doubted him and labelled him as an underdog going into fights. His goal is to cement his legacy as not just one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, but to declare himself as the greatest heavyweight the UFC has ever seen!

This is a big task, as there is only one that can be the absolute greatest! But he is definitely proven why he should be considered for this, as he holds the record for the most consecutive title defences in the history of the division.

The heavyweight division is full of people who are all capable of knocking one another out in any given moment, more so than any other division due to the sheer size of the athletes within the heavyweight division. Being able to defend the title more than anyone else has is a phenomenal achievement.

Miocic was also an incredible athlete growing up. He was hugely successful in both boxing and wrestling notably. He won the Golden Gloves as an amateur boxer, one of the tournament greats like Muhammad Ali also won as an amateur! Mioicic was also a NCAA Division I wrestler at Cleveland State.

He was able to combine and implement these two disciplines when training in mixed martial arts. Miocic told us ‘I like being the underdog. I like turning around and shutting people up when they tell me I can’t.’ Here we can see how Miocic uses the doubters to motivate him to prove them wrong.

When people say to him, he can’t do it, it only drives him to show them he can! Be limitless in your journey to accomplishing your goals, aim as high as possible and keep working up till you get there!

Miocic is able to find his INNER-PEACE

Miocic has been able to find his own INNER-PEACE. Outside of fighting Miocic likes to spend time with his family. He is also a part-time firefighter even though he is now the UFC champion!

He has said: ‘Saving people, helping people, is just something I always wanted to do.’ Here we can see it is a part of who Miocic is. By helping people who require it, Miocic is able to find his own inner-peace as he believes it is his duty.

He is from Ohio and likes to represent his place of birth with honour and pride. Here we can see Miocic has remained the same even when becoming a champion, keeping his job as a firefighter.

He also believes it keeps him grounded and connected to his roots. By keeping these close ties to his hometown and not forgetting what helped him achieve his goals, he has been able to find his own inner-peace. You must find out what you care about most in this world to find your own inner-peace.

Miocic has given things TIME

Miocic has had to give things TIME to get to where he is now. He has had to be patient throughout his life. Miocic turned pro in 2010, it would take him 6 years to fulfil his dream of becoming the UFC heavyweight champion in 2016.

During these 6 years Miocic stayed patient and positive, constantly training so that he could improve himself. A time where Miocic really did have to show patience was when he first lost to Daniel Cormier. It was a shock knockout in the first round where Miocic lost his belt in just a blink of a second.

He immediately demanded a rematch but it wasn’t to be. During this time off Miocic showed his patience and made sure he made the most of his time off. He made sure to sharpen up his skills and let his body heal from any injuries.

Just over a year later Miocic would reclaim his belt winning via TKO in the 4th round. Miocic has told us previously: ‘I’ve done things that weren’t good, you know, but I made up for my mistakes.’ Here he shows us we all make mistakes. But over time we learn from these mistakes, enabling us to become better in the long run.

Miocic was able to rectify the mistakes he made in the first fight by winning in spectacular fashion in the next bout. He would then also go on to win the trilogy fight he and Daniel Cormier had. You must always be patient and give things time when chasing your dreams. It won’t happen overnight!

Miocic is always ACTIVE

Miocic makes sure that he is always ACTIVE. To get to the top, he put immense work in. He was always training even when he was not fighting. He knew all the training he was doing would pay off in the future.

As the more he trains, the more he learns and improves. Miocic usually aims to have around 2 to 3 fights a year, this helps to keep him sharp and in the best condition possible when fighting. He has had times where he has been inactive, but during this time he did not waste it.

At times when he was injured, he would be actively improving his mental strength rather than his physical strength. Miocic states: ‘I just work hard at everything I do. If there’s something I need to learn, I stick to it, I learn it and put everything I have toward it.’ Here we can see the kind of work rate Miocic has. When there is something he needs to learn he puts his all into it.

By doing this he is giving himself the best chance of success. When it comes to fight night Miocic can be content to win, lose or draw as he knows he did everything in his power to be ready for the fight. The worst feeling is not performing to the best of your ability when you know you could have done more. So stay active and keep working!

Miocic remains RELENTLESS

Miocic has displayed how RELENTLESS he is! Being the underdog and counted out on many occasions, especially when he was the champion in some of them! He has shown why he is one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time.

Though he has had his setbacks, he has come back much stronger. We have been able to see this on two occasions, when he lost to Junior Dos Santos and Daniel Cormier. When he rematched both of them, he won!

Miocic tells us: ‘You can look at it and say I’m doing this better or that better, but the bottom line is, I just learned to be mentally tougher.’ Showing us he believes that his mental strength is what gives him the advantage over the rest of the competitors in the division.

Over the years he has mentally toughened, allowing him to reach the superior heights he has. You must stay mentally strong on your journey to accomplishing your dreams. There will be setbacks and tough moments, but you must stay strong and keep going!

Miocic is highly regarded as the greatest heavyweight in UFC history and one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time! He has constantly been doubted throughout his journey, but we can learn from how he acted and how he proved to everyone what he is really capable of!
